Arlington is one of Greater Boston's most desirable inner ring suburbs, about 6 miles northwest of downtown, with A rated schools on Niche's 2026 list and a fully built out housing stock that creates genuine scarcity. That scarcity shows up directly in the numbers. As of August 2026, per MLS data, single family homes in Arlington sold for an average of $1,374,177 against an average list price of $1,303,129, roughly 5.5% over asking. Average sale price worked out to $624 per square foot across an average of 2,293 square feet, and homes went under agreement in about 16 days. Arlington has no rail station of its own. The Red Line terminus at Alewife sits just over the Cambridge line, a short walk from East Arlington, which makes that end of town one of the most transit accessible places outside Cambridge itself.
